Ochikeron is known for her easy to perform recipes and she puts them on YouTube to share them with the rest of us. But this simple two ingredient cake will wow you with the use of the ingredients. Preheat your oven to 170 Celsius or 338 Fahrenheit.
The first step is to separate the egg yolks from the whites. Place the whites in the refrigerator and while you crumble the chocolate bars. You will need boiling water in a pan and place the bowl with the crumbled chocolate bars over the water to melt.
While your chocolate is melting pull the whites out of the refrigerator and beat them to a peaky meringue. Once the chocolate is completely melted add the yolks and blend with a whisk until blended well. The final ingredient is the meringue which will be added 1/3 at a time and folded into the mixture with a spatula.
You can line your pan with parchment paper or you can oil or grease the sides so that it doesn’t stick. Place in your preheated oven for about 40 minutes and you will have a tasty treat. Topping your cake is optional but try fruit or confection sugar for added appeal.
Even for those that find cooking a difficult task this recipe is easy enough not to be daunting. All-in-all this recipe will take an hour to an hour and a half to complete when you add in the chocolate melting time and prep time.
The tools required to perform the recipe are standard kitchen tools with nothing fancy added in. Ochikeron uses the shell of the egg to separate the whites from the yolks but an egg separator could be used instead. A total of 5 bowls and pans are used for prep; a bowl for the whites, a bowl for the yolks, a bowl for the chocolate, a pot to boil water in, and a cake baking pan. Also needed is a whisk, spatula, and a beater.
