This Dog Had A Loving Home, But One Day His Family Made A Cruel Decision

This is the unbelievable story of a pitbull named Bernie. His life took an unexpected turn one day and he was left to fend for himself. For the majority of his life, he had a home and a family to call his own. Bernie even had a favorite blanket. He carried the blanket with him everywhere he went, much like Linus from the Peanuts cartoons.

But one day, the family he had grown to love decided to surrender him. At the age of 7, Bernie went from living the good life to ending up homeless on the streets. Do you know why his family gave him up, though? According to a volunteer from Second Chance Rescue NYC, Bernie wasn’t even allowed to bring his blanket with him when he was taken away from his home.

After being left at the shelter, Bernie was placed on the euthanization list, along with all the other dogs in his predicament. To make matters worse, Bernie contracted pneumonia while he was living at the shelter. Second Chance Rescue NYC pulled the pup from the shelter once the diagnosis was made and brought to an emergency vet for treatment.

He couldn’t breathe and thanks to the donations he received, Bernie was able to afford the high medical costs of repairing his condition. From there, a suitable foster home was found. Jana, the volunteer who helped him find a home, continues to spend time with him whenever possible.

Bernie loves his new foster home. He’s got a big backyard to frolic in, tons of friends to play with and he even has a pool to swim in. Bernie also gets to enjoy plenty of ice creams and best of all, he received a suitable replacement for his trusty blanket.

The new blanket gets carried everywhere with him, much like the old one. Bernie is a true survivor and he made it through abandonment, illness and potential death. While there is a large mass on his neck that still requires removal and he continues to look for his forever home, Bernie is doing fine.
